The FirstBank Management Associate Programme (FMAP) is designed to build a pipeline of next-generation leaders who will drive the Bank’s vision of being Africa’s Bank of first choice.

In a bid to integrate leadership into the culture of the Bank and groom a pipeline of next generation leaders, the Board has approved the implementation of the FirstBank Management Associate Programme (FMAP). This initiative is designed as a fast-track comprehensive developmental programme, targeted at young, dynamic, self-motivated and highly driven individuals with excellent thinking skills, financial and methodical skills, as well as exceptional ability to communicate effectively and synthesize ideas, information and data to aid decision making.

First Bank of Nigeria, sometimes referred to as FirstBank, is a Nigerian multinational bank and financial services company headquartered in Lagos. It is the biggest bank in Nigeria by total deposits and gross earnings. It operates a network of over 750 business locations across Africa, the United Kingdom and representative offices in Abu Dhabi, Beijing and Johannesburg set up to capture trade-related business between geographies. The bank specialises in retail banking and has the largest retail client base in Nigeria. In 2015, The Asian Banker awarded FirstBank the Best Retail Ban.

Global Exposure and Network

Cross-country posting and secondment opportunities will be offered to successful candidates across the FirstBank network to provide them with global exposure and network.

In summary, the FirstBank Management Associate Programme is aimed at building a pipeline of next generation leaders who will drive the Bank’s vision of being Africa’s Bank of first choice. The programme is open to both internal and external candidates who possess the right skill set and excellent leadership potential. Successful candidates will be promoted to Assistant Manager grade and will enjoy regular promotion subject to consistent high performance ratings.

Requirements for FirstBank Management Associate Program Qualification

Internal Qualification

The Bank is soliciting applications from eligible internal candidates between BA & SBO grades who possess the right skill set and excellent leadership potential. Candidates must be willing to take advantage of this window of opportunity to fast-track their career and be part of the next generation of leaders of the Bank.

Successful candidates (Management Associates) will be promoted to Assistant Manager grade, irrespective of their grades at the point of entry, upon completion of the programme. They will also be tagged as High-Potential staff (HiPos) in the Bank and will enjoy regular promotion subject to consistent high performance ratings in the yearly appraisal exercise. Full-time postings will be assigned based on the delegate’s preferred/selected business function.

External Qualification

The Bank has also opened the programme to external candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Not more than 30 years old
  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in a structured organization, preferably financial services sector or global consulting firm
  • Minimum of Second Class Upper division in any discipline from a recognized University
  • Candidates must have a post-graduate degree (minimum Master’s degree) from a reputable university; OR
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as ACCA, ACA, CPA, CFA
